Young people are the future!!! - Typical Thursday Night Work Party @ OSU’s Student Farm - hot supper every Thursday March through October!

25 years ago, 3 students complained…

They weren’t getting any information about organic agriculture in their classes and wanted more experiential learning opportunities - so they started their own damn farm! After forming in 2000, the OSU Organic Growers Club caught the ear of a young faculty member in Crop and Soil Science and a sympathetic land manager and the student farm was born. Year by year for the last 25 years the all volunteer project grew and experimented and created it’s own culture, where all were welcome to come learn how to grow food and grow as young people - together.

This all-volunteer project now boasts 3 farm locations, Year ‘round weekly work parties, hosts dozens of Service Learning Projects for credit earning classes, has a mature certified organic fruit orchard, sells fruit and veggies through direct sales/CSA/farmers markets, is integrated into the coursework of many classes including classes for a certificate in Organic Farming Systems, and MUCH more! Over 30,000 students have visited the farm and over 200 paid summer internships have help train the next generation of leaders in Organic Agriculture! All that and more has been self-funded through the sale of fruits and veggies grown by the students themselves!

Endowed Position Fund - Permanent support

Help us close the gap

But there’s only so much that can be done with the power of the people as volunteers. Please get in touch if you have the resources to help fund this project into the future! We have an OSU Foundation Campaign (OSU Student Farm Fund) going now and are more than one third the way to our goal to permanently fund instructor/farm manager position to take the farm to the next level! No contribution is too small or too large! Invest in the FUTURE! Invest in young people who want to create their future!

Please contact me if you want to learn more about this campaign and help us get to our goal - Permanent Support for Student Farming @ OSU - for the FUTURE of Farming!
